# Koolstofsequestratie, carbon sequestration, koolstofopslag

Koolstofsequestratie (carbon sequestration) is een kerncompoment van [CCS](https://www.pixii.be/bouwtermen/carbon-capture-storage-ccs/) (carbon capture and storage). CCS is een proces dat CO2-uitstoot kan afvangen en vervolgens opslaan. Deze opslag heet sequestratie. Koolstofsequestratie is de opslagcomponent in het CCS-proces. Bij sequestratie denken we vooral aan langetermijnopslag in geologische formaties, oceanen of zelfs door directe mineralisatie.
